We speak with Rob Ward, National Coordinator, SCA UK, and Group Coffee Specialist, Gruppo Cimbali, ahead of his events at The GCF.
Can you tell us what you do for Gruppo Cimbali?
I am currently National Coordinator for the
SCA UK Chapter, as well as working with
Slayer Espresso machines developing presence in the UK and as a Coffee Specialist for
Gruppo Cimbali.
What's your involvement in the GCF 2020?
I had the privilege of mediating a panel on Machines of the Future, was a panelist on "The Importance of Water in the Coffee World" discussion and presented the Cimbali S30, demonstrating different coffees and cocktails for menus. I also judged some elements of Coffee Masters Showtime and worked with the competitors to be comfortable on the amazing Slayer LPx.
Do you have a favourite coffee city?
Probably Portland! Seattle, New York and London are great, but I like the slightly laid back vibes in Portland.
What piece of advice do you have for someone looking to launch their coffee career?
Taste, listen and engage! These three things are vitally important in what you do, never think you know more than someone else. Learn from everyone.
And finally, what's the best part about your job?
Tasting some of the best coffees in the world, brewed on the best equipment.
